Wachter Arena at the Capital Ice Complex
Bismarck, ND
In 2013, Übl Design Group began working with a volunteer group of hockey and figure skating enthusiasts on a proposed expansion and renovations to the aging Schaumberg Arena to accommodate the demand for additional indoor ice in Bismarck/Mandan area.
In 2015, after privately fundraising $3.8 million, the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District authorized Übl Design Group to begin the design process of a new ice rink.
The new Wachter Arena at the Capital Ice Complex, as it is now named, includes:
a new 200-foot x 85-foot rink refrigerated by a state-of-the-art CO2 system that is first of its kind in the contiguous United States
12 new lockers rooms (including 3 high school size locker rooms)
seating for 500 people
a newly expanded lobby
new mezzanine level community room that provides an overlook view of both ice rinks
new dryland training area for the skating athletes
Along with being a hub of activity for wintertime sports and recreation, the building was developed to serve the community year-round by offering indoor space capable of holding public meetings, local events and indoor sports training.
